Cogstone currently seeking multiple Archaeological Technicians with previous California experience to perform the full range of tasks for multiple projects in Southern California. Cogstone has offices in Orange (HQ), San Diego, Inland Empire, Morro Bay and San Francisco.

Job Description

Archaeological Technicians will work on inventory, research, evaluation, and mitigation projects. Project tasks include research, literature reviews, record searches, field surveys and excavations, field monitoring, laboratory processing, and possibly data analysis. This job is not restricted to one single type of work and a variety of tasks may be assigned in order to meet the company’s needs.


• BA in anthropology or archaeology • Two years of experience is preferred and experience must be in California • Competency in field and laboratory work • Ability to travel and conduct field work for long hours, at various times, including night work, in possible inclement weather conditions and diverse terrain, and the ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds

Skill Requirements

• Familiarity with cultural resource laws and regulations • Applicant must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and their own vehicle • Must be local, no out of state applicants. • Proficiency in using standard office software and equipment • Oral and written communication skills • Ability to work independently with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team • Self-motivated with strong initiative

Orientation and Training

We provide orientation and training for new employees. This includes orientation to company procedures, company intranet, safety and other items and paleontology training for all technical personnel.

All technical employees participate in 32 hours a year of mandatory company training to advance technical knowledge, practice proper completion of field tasks and review safety. We also provide opportunities for staff to increase their skill sets.

Field personnel have completed 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification, API WorkSafe Training, E-Railsafe Training and similar programs. Non-technical personnel are also provided training opportunities and professional development, including project management certification.
