Cultural Resources Technician with GIS Experience Orange, CA

Cogstone Resource Management Inc. seeks a committed, reliable and responsible Cultural Resources Technician with GIS experience to perform work at our Orange, California office. Knowledge of California prehistoric and historic archaeology and GIS experience a must.  As a staff member of a small business, Cultural Resources Technicians will be required  to perform a variety of tasks which include but are not limited to: excavation, field survey, lab work, monitoring, map making, report writing, among others. Accepting both full time and part time applications.

 

Job Description

Provides technical support to professional archaeologists utilizing a basic understanding of anthropological and archaeological field techniques in connection with locating, testing, and evaluating cultural resource sites. Conducts pre-field research, field surveys, and site testing using a variety of reference materials. Search areas of proposed projects for evidence of historic and prehistoric remains. Determine exact location of sites and marks them on maps and aerial photographs. Insure that work assignments are carried out in a safe and timely manner according to established standards and procedures. Cleans and catalogs artifacts. GIS responsibilities will include:

  • Creating maps and performing a wide range of geospatial analyses in support of cultural resources assessments, field surveys, and construction compliance
  • Adhering to established cartographic standards and Quality Assurance / Quality Control processes
  • Managing a wide variety of project-specific and reference geospatial data in accordance with defined data management standards
  • Supporting geospatial field data collection efforts
  • Reviewing and post-processing GIS data

 

Qualifications

  • BA in Anthropology, Geography, Geographical Information Systems or a closely related field
  • Masters in GIS, Geography or Anthropology preferred
  • Experience in Cultural Resources Management
  • Advanced user knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS 10.6
  • Applicant must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and their own vehicle

  • Experience in paleontology a plus
  • Ability to work independently with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team
  • Self-motivated with strong initiative

  • Exceptional visual, written and verbal communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS Online, Collector for ArcGIS, Survey 1-2-3 for ArcGIS, Trimble Pathfinder, and Trimble TerraSync
  • Proficiency in use of MS Office suite, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat

 

Physical Demands

The job demands periodic sitting, standing and walking.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk and hear. The employee must lift or move collection materials that may weigh up to 40 pounds periodically and be able to stand for ten hours.

 

Compensation
